Beautiful Star quilt block

Beautiful Star quilt block
February 8,1933-"Beautiful Star" Provides Striking Design for Quilt was the title of Nancy Cabot's column in the Chicago Tribune on this day.  She said the background fabric should be a "perky printed fabric" and that the blocks when pieced together made an overall design.  "The contrast of the star, in plain colors, against the background is so striking as to give the appearance of projection and solidity" she added.

The Beautiful Star quilt block is easy to make.  I thought this was a good chance to use the purple feed sack fabric I had as my background.  The pattern has been too big for most of the other blocks so far.

To make this 6" finished block, you can download the templates here.  The block can also be found in Electric Quilt's BlockBase program as #3893.

To put the block together, I sewed it into the sections shown at the right first.

Then I sewed the center together as shown below.  Lastly, sew on the remaining two pieces.
